Rules
Blue Water Volleygrass rules and format are listed below, and will be included in your tournament packet when you check in on event day. All players are required to sign the tournament waiver (parent or guardian signature required for attendees under 18) and turn in to event registration prior to play. A copy of the waiver is available for download on this page, and a copy will also be provided for signature at event check in if not completed in advance.
Please note that rules and format may be subject to change. Any changes will be noted and communicated prior to tournament time to ensure that all participants are aware and able to comply.
Volleygrass Festival RULES

All games will be played with the Official VOLLEYGRASS game balls provided.

NO open hand tips (closed fist or backhand hits allowed). Clean contact open hand allowed
-
When setting the ball over the net, you do not have to be square to the net.

Double contact is allowed on any attacked ball.

Contact with the net is a violation. Breaking plane of the net below the net is not a violation unless there is interference with the opposing team.

All adjacent courts are out of bounds.

NO blocking or attacking serves. Setting the serve is allowed.

“LET” serve is allowed.

Rotation of servers is required. Rotation of positions on court is not required.

Play is 4 on 4, There is no minimum limit on the number of players.

Teams attempting to play unregistered, unsigned players will be immediately disqualified from play.

Bare feet, soft soled shoes or grass volleyball shoes only. NO CLEATS.

Decisions of the Volley Bosses are final, EVEN if in conflict with the rules!

This Volleyball tournament is a festival and your efforts to maintain a clean and fun atmosphere will be greatly appreciated.

NO pets or smoking allowed.
-
Any body contact is considered a valid play.
-
For Co-Ed divisions, at least 2 women must be on the court at all times.

Please pay attention to your schedule to ensure proper pace of play!

Co-ed Tournament Format
Friday, July 26, 2024
Team Check-in starts at 4pm. Games start at 5pm.
The Volleygrass Tournament format varies with each division based on the number of teams entered. All play is 4 on 4. See your pool/division sheet for your particular format. You can follow your path through the entire tournament with your team packet (which your captain will receive at the captain’s meeting prior to play). You need only check with the assigned Volleyboss for your division to certify the results of each round. Format may change if deemed necessary by the Tournament Directors. All games are rally score.
Note: In some cases teams have been moved to different divisions to maximize play.
In case of inclement weather / darkness, the following adjustments may be made:

Matches may be shortened by points.

Single elimination.
-
Tournament cancellation.
In case of inclement weather, captains will be called to the tournament director to discuss.
Officiating: Each team will make their own calls and will be required to supply a score keeper. Please report scores to the Volleyboss.
WINNING TEAM MUST REPORT YOUR SCORES TO THE VOLLEYBOSS AFTER EACH MATCH.

Men, Women, Girls, and Boys Tournament Format
Saturday July 28 - Sunday July 29, 2024
Team check-in: 8am Sat.
Captain meeting: 8:45am Sat.
Games begin at 9am Sat. & Sun.

You can follow your path through the entire tournament with your team packet (which your captain will receive at the captain’s meeting prior to play). You need only check with the assigned Volleyboss for your division to certify the results of each round. All games are rally score.
Note: In some cases teams have been moved to different divisions to maximize play.
Match Guidelines:
Saturday and Sunday:

Each day's format is found on the division pool / bracket

Switch sides at teams’ discretion.

Two - 1 minute time-outs per game.
-
Ties will be broken by Head to Head, score differential, or as determined by the Volleyboss.
Note: Format may change if deemed necessary by the Tournament Directors.

Officiating: Please be aware of your officiating duties (Sat/Sun), Failure to comply could result in a forfeit for your team’s next match or exclusion from future Volleygrass events. Each team will be required to supply 1 net judge and 2 line judges for each officiating shift. A scorekeeper will also be required.
